Custom 1:20 Container Storage Box Model with Working Zinc Alloy Doors

Most of what we make is meant to sit still. A display container model gets put on a shelf or behind a reception desk, gets dusted once a month, and never has its doors opened for ten years.

This is not that product. A container storage box gets opened forty times a week by somebody looking for a cable tie, and every decision on this page follows from that. A sealed version of the same container model only has to convince you from three meters away. Something you open has to convince you at arm's length, several thousand times, without its handle coming away in your hand.

It cuts both ways. Scale the real working gear down twenty times and most of it stops carrying load. Bring it back up to 1:20, though, and every marking on the full-size box is still legible. Those two facts shape how every container storage box in this range gets put together.

Where 1:20 actually comes from

A 20-foot ISO dry container measures 6,058 × 2,438 × 2,591 mm over its corner castings. Divide by twenty and you get 302.9 × 121.9 × 129.6 mm.

Our body is 310 × 122 × 131 mm. Width and height land within a millimeter of true scale. The extra seven millimeters in length are deliberate: it is room for the locking handles to stand clear of the rear frame, exactly as they do on the real thing, where the door gear bolts onto the outside of the end frame instead of tucking inside it. Plenty of factories simply divide, cut tooling to the clean number, and end up with handles that have nowhere to go. It is why the body of a storage box container model always runs a few millimeters long. There is a reason the arithmetic never quite comes out even.

There is a second check that we rather enjoy. Scale is linear, volume is cubic — twenty to the third power is eight thousand. A real 20-foot box holds about 33.2 cubic meters, and 33.2 divided by eight thousand is 4.15 liters. Our usable internal space works out at a little over four liters. Nobody asked us to make those two numbers agree. It is just what happens when the dimensions of a storage box container model come off a drawing instead of off a photograph.

What actually fits inside, tested rather than guessed

The opening is about 116 × 125 mm and the cavity runs 300 mm deep. In practice:

• Pens, pencils, markers up to about 200 mm — fine laid flat.

• Business cards, sticky-note pads, USB sticks, keys, coins, cable ties, adapters, spare batteries.

• A 330 ml can stands up. A 500 ml bottle only goes in lying down.

• A phone goes in. A tablet does not, and neither does a mug.

• Past about a kilo and a half the walls start to bow. A display container model is not a step stool, whatever the office decides. (Somebody will sit on it.)

The real ergonomics issue is depth, not volume. Anything small migrates to the back of a container box this deep and stays there, and then you are tipping the whole thing upside down to find it, which is undignified and eventually fatal to the hinge pin. Use a tray. That is the single most repeated piece of advice we give about any storage container model we have sold.

FAQ

Do the doors really open, or are they glued shut?

They open, which already separates this from the cheap versions of a storage container model you will see listed elsewhere. Both leaves swing on pinned hinges as far as the handle geometry allows, and the handles turn with them.

Is it waterproof?

No, and the same is true of every ABS container model on the market whatever the listing claims. Nothing about this unit is sealed, including at the doors. The soft-touch ring is a feel coating, not a gasket.

How much can it hold?

Around four liters of usable space and roughly 1.5 kg before the walls of the container box start to flex. Treat it as desk storage rather than shelf storage for anything heavy.

Can you match our corporate color exactly?

Any Pantone or RAL reference, yes. Build in one round of correction on the first sprayed sample when the target is metallic or has a defined gloss level — those are harder to hit from a color card than flat shades. Budget one extra sample cycle for any metallic painted container box.

What is the minimum order?

There is no tooling charge on an existing storage box container model, so single units are fine, and that is how most first orders start. New hardware means new dies and a different conversation.

Do you print an owner's existing container number?

If you supply it, yes, including the check digit, and we will run it through ISO 6346 first. If you do not have one, we leave the panel blank rather than invent one, because a wrong number makes a promotional container model worthless to anyone in the industry. How long does shipping take after production?

Air freight is typically under a week to most major markets, sea freight depends on the lane, and a consignment of bulk container models carries a surprising amount of air in the carton. We quote both once we know the destination and quantity.
