EVERGREEN 1:20 Flat Rack Container Model — Custom ABS Replica by O.A.S
EVERGREEN green is not one color. It is at least three, and that is the first thing a buyer learns when he asks us to build an EVERGREEN flat rack container model.
The container body is the standard EVERGREEN green, matched to the RAL reference the shipping line uses on its real fleet. The end frames and corner castings are a darker shade, because on the real container those are cast steel and painted separately. The reporting mark and the container number on the side rail are white, printed in a specific sans-serif that EVERGREEN has used since the early 2000s. Get any one of those wrong and the model reads as "a green container" instead of "an EVERGREEN container." We learned this on the first batch and have kept a paint card ever since.
This is a 1:20 scale flat rack container model, and the scale matters for a reason that has nothing to do with shelf space. At 1:20, a 40-foot flat rack is roughly 606 mm long — large enough that the EVERGREEN logo on the end frame stands 18 mm tall, which is legible from across a desk. It is also large enough that every structural detail on a flat rack becomes a part you can point at: the folding end walls, the lashing rings recessed into the side rails, the cross members visible underneath, the ISO corner castings with their oval openings. A smaller scale forces you to paint those details on. At 1:20 you build them.
The Green, and Why It Takes Longer Than You Think
We spray the body color in two coats: a primer to give the ABS tooth, then the EVERGREEN green in a satin finish. Gloss on a container model looks like a toy; satin looks like a container that has been in service for six months, which is what a logistics manager recognizes. The end frames get a darker green with a slight texture, because cast steel does not have the same surface finish as corrugated steel side panels. We mask the corner castings by hand and spray them separately — there is no way to mask a 1:20 corner casting with a machine that is faster than a person with a piece of tape and a steady hand.
The EVERGREEN mark and the container number are printed, not painted. Printing at this scale gives a sharper edge than a stencil, and the white ink sits on top of the green without bleeding. We clear-coat the whole model after printing, which protects the mark from the one thing that destroys a container model faster than anything — being picked up and put down again.
What a Flat Rack Actually Carries, and Why That Matters for the Model
A flat rack exists for one reason: cargo that will not fit through a door.
Generators, construction machinery, steel coils, timber bundles, oversized pipe, wind turbine sections — all of it rides on a flat rack, secured with lashing straps and chains anchored to the rings in the side rails. The end walls fold down when the rack is empty so that multiple racks can stack, and they stand upright when loaded to contain the cargo. On a real flat rack, the end walls take a beating. They get scraped by forklifts, dented by shifting loads, and repainted more often than any other part of the container.
On this model, the end walls are separate molded parts that pivot on metal hinge pins. They fold flat and they stand upright, and the hinge is the same pinned design we use across our container model range — not a living hinge molded into the plastic, which breaks. The lashing rings are molded into the side rails at the correct spacing, and the cross members under the floor are visible if you turn the model over. We do that because the people who buy an EVERGREEN flat rack container model are usually people who know what a flat rack is for, and they turn models over.
Customization Beyond the Paint
EVERGREEN livery is the standard ask, but this model supports the same custom options as the rest of our 1:20 container model line. We can build a deck load to sit on the flat rack — a molded generator housing, a stack of steel pipes, timber bundles — painted and secured with real wire lashing so that it reads as cargo rather than as a painted block. We can add a chassis so the container sits on a trailer, making it a container truck model for a diorama or a display. We can change the container number to match a specific unit in your fleet, or add a company logo alongside the EVERGREEN mark for a co-branded corporate gift.
Structural variants are possible too: 20-foot flat racks, platform containers without end walls, collapsible-side versions. Those are tooling changes rather than paint changes, and we will tell you the minimum order and the lead time before you commit. The standard 40-foot flat rack uses existing tooling and ships faster.
Who Orders the EVERGREEN Version
EVERGREEN is one of the shipping lines we have built container models for repeatedly, and the EVERGREEN flat rack container model has a predictable set of buyers. EVERGREEN's own offices and agencies order them for reception displays and client gifts — a flat rack with a realistic load tells a better story than a dry box, because it shows what the line actually carries. Freight forwarders and logistics companies that handle EVERGREEN cargo order them with their own logo added for exhibition stands and sales meetings. Maritime academies and training programs use them for teaching lashing and cargo securement, because students can see the rings and the end frames and understand how over-dimensional freight actually moves. And model builders buy them for 1:20 scale dioramas, where a flat rack with a load is the most interesting container on the layout.
We have been building container models in Shenzhen since 2008, and the flat rack is the variant that teaches new painters the most. There is no roof to hide behind, no side walls to break up the view. Every surface is exposed, every color has to match, and the end frames have to work. If we can build an EVERGREEN flat rack container model that an EVERGREEN logistics manager will put on his desk, we can build anything in the container model range.
Ordering and Lead Time
Standard EVERGREEN livery on existing tooling: samples in 5–7 working days, production in 20–35 working days depending on quantity. Custom loads, co-branding, or structural changes add time and we will quote it separately. Minimum order is one piece for a standard model.
